Oral Health Concerns in the Elderly

oral-health-concerns-in-the-elderly4Hygiene is an essential part of our well-being. When the body is clean, it helps avoid many diseases. And included in our overall hygiene is oral health.

Many older adults suffer from dental issues. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the primary causes of poor oral health are the lack of insurance and dental health benefits, the presence of a disability, and being economically disadvantaged, among others.

Also, according to CDC, institutionalization is another factor, and as an Assisted Living Facility in Minnesota, we feel sad about the findings.

The most prevalent issues in senior dental care are as follows:

  • Periodontal disease
  • Tooth decay
  • Complete tooth loss
  • Oral cancer

So, as a provider of Housing Support, what shall we do to avoid these issues?

We should promote regular toothbrushing and flossing and encourage our senior loved ones to quit smoking and drinking alcohol. Visiting a dentist is also essential.

At A Helping Hand Senior Care Services, we believe seniors need encouragement, support, and comprehensive care. Our Group Home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, assures them that they can get the right amount of care they deserve. We will do our best in providing for their needs.

If you need our assistance, please call 612-255-3110.
